Surveys done between 1997 and 2000 denote significant presence of beech bark disease within Catskill Mountain watersheds. The article provides historical reference to distribution and abundance of both the tree species and the pathogen within the region, concluding the present phase of beech bark disease as being an established, endemic component of the Catskill forests.
