Infra-red imaging was used in the Catskill Mountains to (1) identify hemlock-dominated forested areas, (2) produce a rating system for assessing hemlock health, and (3) predict declines. The technology and methods used in this study could serve as a tool for detecting and managing threats to the ecosystem associated with the hemlock woolly adelgid.
